Rwanda, Cyato
A microlot offering from Rwanda. This washed bourbon coffee carries a bold body with rich notes of black cherry & dark chocolate. Grown at an astounding 6,800 feet above sea level and carefully sorted. It excels at almost all methods of brewing making it crowd pleasing and easy to drink. We have been loving it as a single origin espresso but also brew it as pour over from time to time.
Region - Cayto sector, Nyamasheke district, Western Province
Altitude - 6,800 ft
Process - Washed and dried (on raised beds)
Variety - 100% Bourbon
One interesting facet to coffee here is that the native honeybees that live in and around the Nyungwe forest where the coffee is grown are said to be responsible in part to the "unique profile" this coffee has. The bee-assisted pollination, fertile ground (black humus and sandy soil), and cool lake-affected climate thanks to the area's proximity to Lake Kivu contribute to the flavors found in the cup. The farmers use no synthetic inputs, either as fertilizers or as pest control.
